FoodCorps is a nationwide team of leaders that connects kids to real food and helps them grow up healthy.
FoodCorps does that by placing motivated leaders in limited-resource communities for a year of public service. Working under the direction of local partner organizations, we implement a three-ingredient recipe for healthy kids. Our Service Members:
Teach kids about what healthy food is and where it comes from
Build and tend school gardens
Bring high-quality local food into public school cafeterias
FoodCorps is a new nationwide program that is similar to AmeriCops but for food focused individuals. Our volunteer will be selected and start in August, their main focus will be working with the Yuba River Charter School to develop a farm site on Old Dairy Road where the new school will eventually be.
LHNC was one of 10 service groups selected for FoodCorps in California. The program has been piloted in other states in previous years. We are thrilled to get to work with FoodCorps!
LHNC needs to raise $5000 to match the funding we have received for this position. If you would like to contribute, please do so here.
Applications are due March 24th. Emerging leaders interested in getting more information should go to http://foodcorps.org/become-a-service-member.
