The LHNC FNAC envisions schools where children have access to fresh, local, seasonal food through school gardens, and are highly engaged in growing, harvesting, preparing, and eating food from those gardens. We have helped schools like Hennessy establish a school garden, and are available to consult other schools on how to get started, and keep the program going.
There are many ways to get involved with existing school gardens: gardens need signs, tools, irrigation, starts, weeding, help with harvesting and cleaning, and more. To volunteer or make a donation, please contact Aimee Retzler at aimeeretzler @ yahoo.com.
If you are a teacher who is interested in garden-related lesson plans, please visit our Resources and Nutrition Education pages.
