Farm Trail Weekend: Tour, Taste, Discovery

Join us for Nevada County’s first annual Farm Trail Weekend on July 7 & 8, 2018, from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm each day.  Member farms and ranches will open their gates to provide an opportunity to learn more about how your local food is grown. Participants can set their own pace as they explore a variety of farms and ranches along the Nevada County Farm Trail.

Agricultural members of Nevada County Grown have joined together to celebrate the bounty that our county has to offer. We invite you to spend a day exploring the county’s beautiful tapestry of pastoral farms woven together by the heritage of farmers and ranchers.

AM Ranch is a family owned and operated ranch.  At AM Ranch, we believe in using our animals and land together to create a sustainable and thriving environment.  We raise beef, pork, and eggs. Our beef is grass fed and grass finished. All of our pigs and chickens are out on the pasture and supplemented with a non-GMO feed.

Blue Oaks Ranch sells top-quality breeding stock and advocates for small acreage farmers who wish to raise their own food. We raise Lowline Cattle, Katahdin Sheep, Nubian Dairy Goats, and Friesian Dairy Sheep, as well as the loyal and adorable guardian dogs to help protect your investment – Great Pyrenees. We are available for ranch tours, overnight guests through AirBnB, and offer cheese making classes throughout the year.

“The Most Loved Meat You’ll Ever Eat!” Cosmic Roots Ranch is a small family owned farm primarily raising heritage Mangalista pork.  Our pork is USDA, Non-GMO, Pasture Raised, & Antibiotic Free. We also offer CA certified Free Range eggs, as well as 100% All Natural handmade lard soaps and candles.  Our passion is to provide the best quality products, made solely by owner/operators Ellen Cole & Jesse Olson.

Chapman Family Farm is a neighborhood farm in the lovely Nevada City.  We supply nutritious meat, veggies, herbs, fruit and flowers to our community.  Chapman Family Farm connects with the local food waste system to create fertility for our farm and use low/no till methods to grow our food. As  a co-founder of Living Lands Agrarian Network, Leo and Deb saw the need to nurture the next generation of farmers. Our Farm Stand is open daily!

Laughing oak Farm strives to create a closed loop growing system that incorporates biodynamic methods, permaculture principles, perennial crops, and a focused market garden.  We offer mixed bouquets and flowers for special occasions, organic produce, and alpaca fiber products.

Come hangout at Love Creek Farm Animal Sanctuary and meet our rescues, Hank the pig, Bo the donkey, Mojo the goat, Macchiato the alpaca, Panda the llama, Future the cow and 40 of their rescued friends. Future’s best friend is Stuart the steer and he just maybe the biggest cow you have ever seen. We will have children’s activities, fiber demonstrations, cooling stations, picnic areas, arts and crafts and live music from 11-2. We are a 501c3 nonprofit. Come feel the Love!

Mountain Bounty Farm offers a year-round vegetable and fruit boxes through our Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) weekly subscription program. Over the past 21 years we have become known for the exceptional quality, diversity, and generosity of our produce boxes of heirloom vegetables, fruits and herbs. Tips for the Trail

Our guide for a successful Farm Trail Weekend

    1. It is highly unlikely you will make it to all the stops – and that is ok! Pick your favorites to fully enjoy your day.
    2. Invite out-of-town friends and family to visit and buy tickets online in advance to save $$!
    3. If you’re a planner, go online to map your route in advance, but if you’re a free spirit, see where the trail takes you!
    4. Mix it up! There is no order to the Farm Trail Weekend. Feel free to follow your own path.
    5. Pack a picnic and enjoy it one of our designated picnic friendly farms, or check out one of our farm to table restaurants.
    6. When headed out on the Farm Trail, dress in layers, bring extra water, sunscreen, comfortable closed toed shoes and an adventurous attitude!
    7. Part of the fun is to buy farm-fresh items, so bring an ice chest to keep your tasty treasures nice and cool!
    8. For their comfort and safety, please leave your pets at home as they are not allowed on farms or ranches.
    9. Beat the crowds and get an early start each day to cover more ground!
    10. Because Sunday tends to be less crowded and more leisurely, consider discovering new farms on that day!
    11. The Farm Trail Weekend is the perfect time to buy local gifts for friends and family … Lots of unique gift ideas await!
    12. GPS is your best friend, we recommend GoogleMaps.

**Mountain Bounty Farm and Sierra Rose Alpacas are only open Sunday, please note this, and if you wish to visit these farms, plan accordingly.
