Farm Tour at Peardale Farm – Thurs. September 9th, 2021 from 5:30-7:00PM
Peardale Farm is a new organic farm in the foothills of Nevada County. Rob and Cathy Chase, their niece Kelly Nichols, and their friend Ken Wallace partnered in 2020 to transition the 6 ½ acre property situated on the corner of Highway 174 and Meadow Drive from goat pastures to organic vegetable production. Their first year as Peardale Farm, they focused their efforts on growing vegetable starts, heirloom and sauce tomatoes, specialty peppers, hothouse and pickling cucumbers and summer and winter squash that they primarily sold to neighbors at the on-site farm stand.
In this second year, they are expanding their offerings to include fresh greens, herbs, brassicas, eggplant, snap peas, root vegetables and berries. In September of 2020, the farm received the Organic Certification from CCOF.
As they continue to grow and learn, they aim to transition to a low or no-till system of farming. Protecting the healthy biome of their soil will result in more nutritious produce for their customers and greater sequestration of carbon from the environment. They consider themselves first and foremost stewards of the beautiful property as they supply sustainably grown food to our local community.
