Peaceful Valley Farm and Garden Supply: Aquaponics with Ross Tessien
Saturday, March 12th, 9:30 am – 11:30 am — $15.00
Ross has built several aquaponic systems for personal through commercial use. He is a Mechanical Engineer, and grew up with his father’s garden to work and play in. He has sold lettuce and other greens at local Farmer’s Markets including one of the largest year round markets in our area, the Sacramento WX. He has built aquaponic systems, managed the gardens, and learned to deal with a variety of pests: aphids, butterfly caterpillars, squirrels, and deer.
Aquaponics, a natural form of hydroponics, is a method of growing fish and plants together using systems that mimic nature where fish, microbes, and plants live together symbiotically. This talk will explore different types of aquaponic systems, methods, nutrient and pest issues, and will introduce a booklet that is available exclusively through Peaceful Valley Farm and Garden Supply. The booklet includes instructions on how to build low cost systems (typically 75 percent the cost of comparable online kits) that feed one or more families.
