Alpenglow Sports Winter Film Series Continues with
Prominent Canadian Ice Climber, Alpinist and Paragliding Pilot Will Gadd
Lake Tahoe’s premier winter film event continues on December 1st, 2016 7pm at Squaw Valley with Gadd’s “30 Trips of Lifetime in 60 High-Speed Minutes: Winning the X Games, Ice Climbing Niagara Falls and Paragliding Over the Grand Canyon.”
Alpenglow Sports, Tahoe City’s 39-year-old mainstay mountain shop, is proud to announce the second installment of the 11th annual Winter Film Series. On Thursday, December 1st, 2016 7pm prominent Canadian ice climber and paragliding pilot Will Gadd will continue the series at Squaw Valley’s world-famous Olympic Village Lodge. Gadd’s show “30 Trips of a Lifetime in 60 High-Speed Minutes: Winning the X Games, Ice Climbing Niagara Falls, and Paragliding Over the Grand Canyon” is not to be missed.
Will Gadd, known as “Captain Adventure,” is a living legend in the truest sense. Year after year, the famous Red Bull athlete continually pushes the boundaries of ice climbing and, even after having won every major title from the World Cup to the Winter X Games, still manages to impress. Always eager to rise to a fresh challenge, Gadd also broke the world distance record on a paraglider not once, but three times. He was also the first person to cross the US by paraglider after a grueling seven-week trek.
Will Gadd is one of the top outdoor adventure athletes in the world (Outside, Men’s Journal and Explore). Gadd is best known for wild outdoor adventures in multiple different sports, but he’s most proud of his ability to complete those adventures safely and share them with others. He has appeared in, hosted or produced more than 100 global television projects, is an award-winning writer (New York Times, Men’s Journal, etc.), film-maker, and dad. He is a National Geographic “Adventurer of the Year” and recently became the first person to climb a frozen Niagara Falls.
On December 1st Gadd will tell a fast-paced tale of adventure at Olympic Village Lodge. Having put up the hardest mixed and ice routes in the world for more than 15 years, written the top “how to” ice climbing book in the world, and generally had a lot of fun while re-defining several different sports, his tale is full of adventure, humor, harrowing video and stunning imagery.
These days, Will likes to set himself more creative challenges. “I’ve done enough, won as much as I need to,” he says. “I’m at a point now where I feel like I have a lot less to prove”. All he wants to do now is take what he’s learned and apply it in the most interesting locations on earth.
The Alpenglow Winter Film Series is designed to inspire, motivate and educate, runs from November through February and showcases five famous athletes who tell various tales of adventure from remote mountain ranges across the globe. All shows are free and raffle prizes from sponsors are sold to raise funds for local non-profit organizations.
To date, the Alpenglow Sports Winter Film Series has raised over $70,000 for the North Lake Tahoe non-profit community. Past beneficiaries include the Sierra Avalanche Center, Tahoe Nordic Search and Rescue, Disabled Sports Far West, the Tahoe Food Hub, High Fives Foundation and many more.
The non-profit beneficiary for the evening is The Tahoe Food Hub, an organization working to restore local food distribution by building a regional food system throughout North Lake Tahoe. Amazing raffle prizes will be on hand from generous sponsors Arc’teryx, Black Diamond Equipment, Scarpa, Red Bull and more.
In addition to Gadd, the 11th annual Winter Film Series will showcase the best lineup in over a decade. Other Series speakers include Tommy Caldwell on January 5th, who will present a once-in-a-lifetime show on his historic ascent of Yosemite’s Dawn Wall, the hardest traditional free-climb on earth. On February 23rd high-altitude mountaineers Adrian Ballinger and Cory Richardswill round out the series with a tandem show on their #EverestNoFilteroxygen-less, Snapchat-captured attempt of the world’s tallest peak, 20,330-foot Mt. Everest.
Please come early for drink specials and good seating. The show begins at 7pm. Doors open at 615pm and participants are encouraged to take advantage of drink and dinner specials from Fireside Pizza, both on site and at their restaurant. Please call Alpenglow Sports at 530.583.6917 for further details.
