UCCE: Getting Started with Beef Cattle
This workshop will give you the information and hands-on experience you need to get started in raising beef cattle on your ranch. You will
learn from the experiences of local cattle ranchers from the Tahoe Cattlemen’s Association (TCA) and Roger Ingram, UC Cooperative Extension County Director and Livestock and Natural Resources Advisor. By the end of the day you will have an understanding of cattle handling facilities and other infrastructure needs, evaluating your forage base, potential cattle enterprises, buying and selling cattle, nutrition, health, reproduction, calving, and animal handling. There will be a demonstration of the TCA weedwiper that can be used for controlling smutgrass and other problem plants. The workshop is free and lunch will be provided.
