Farm Biz: A business course for farmers

2024 Farm Biz will take place over 6 weeks, on Thursdays, February 1, 2024 – March 7, 2024 from 3:00 – 5:30pm over Zoom.

In this 6-week business planning course, beginning farmers have the opportunity to learn about planning and projecting the financial side of a farming season, predicting yields, setting prices, projecting sales, calculating expenses, and learning the numbers needed to understand the health of their farms.  Find out all that is required to start a farm and learn directly from guest farmers and regional businesses. 

Feb 1: Making a Living From your Farm: How to Start and Structure Your Farm or Ranch Business

Feb 8: Farmer Professionalism and Cultivating Customers (Guest speakers – Sean Dockery, Three Forks Bakery & Brewing Co., and David Benson from BriarPatch Food Co-op)

Feb 15: Intro to Accounting and Bookkeeping: Build a Cash Flow Calendar & Budget
(Guest speaker – Deena Miller, Sweet Roots Farm)

Feb 22: Analyzing Your Farm and Farm Products: What Should You Produce on Your Farm?
(Guest speaker – Antonio Garza, Feeding Crane Farm)

Feb 29: Funding and Labor (Guest speakers – Alfredo Gonzalez, California FarmLink, and Jeremy Mineau, SuperTuber Farm)

March 7: Insurance and Risk Management
(Guest Speaker – Aleta Barrett, Starbright Acres Family Farm)
