Forever Farms – Advisory Committee

Forever Farms is a regional collaboration that protects farmland and builds long-term land security for Nevada County farmers and ranchers.  Our goal is to identify and protect farmland from development and subdivision, and give farmers and ranchers the land-access they need to invest-in and build thriving agricultural businesses.

Current Forever Farms partners include Sierra Harvest, Bear Yuba Land Trust, BriarPatch Food Coop, the Tahoe Food Hub, and Mountain Bounty Farm.

Position overview:  The Forever Farms Advisory Committee advises the Forever Farms Program on current and future projects.  The scope of the advising includes, but is not limited to: project selection and design, farmer and rancher placement, and project equity and access.

Commitment:  Committee members will serve a two-year term.  The committee will convene quarterly for a 2-3 hour meeting (online &/or in-person.)  Committee members will occasionally need to complete sub-committee work outside of quarterly meetings as the need arises.  We estimate that the time commitment of each committe member will be 15-30 hours per year.

Qualifications:  Strong familiarity with the challenges and successes of Nevada County regional producers and land.  Experience as an owner or employee of a commercial Ag operation, or other relevant experience in the food, Ag, and land sector.  A commitment to social justice and equity in land-tenure and the food system.  A willingness to show-up and contribute.  Familiarity with regional open space and agricultural land conservation in and around Nevada County.

Additional Information:  Our aim is to create an Advisory Committee that is representative of the demographics of agriculture in the region, and that includes a diversity of agricultural producers, food system workers, and land conservationists across race, sexual orientation, gender identity, socioeconomic and political perspectives.  Veterans encouraged to apply.

Compensation:  A stipend of $75/meeting is available.

Application & Selection:  Applicants submit their interest through this online form.  The founding Advisory Committee will be selected by the Forever Farms Steering Committee and the committee itself will select subsequent members.  The Advisory Committee includes at least one member of each partner organization.
