Join the Sierra Harvest volunteer team today and support our New Generation Educational Farm Program as a Farm Field Trip Educator teaching and inspiring elementary school students!
Dates Needing Volunteers: April 12 (1 volunteer) May 10 (1 volunteer) May 17 (2 volunteers) May 24 (1 volunteer) May 31 (1 volunteer)
Time: 8am-12:30pm (student instruction 9am-12pm)
What: Running a “station” at a farm field trip at New Generation Education Farm Program sponsor farm sites, usually a 4.5 hour commitment. Supplies and instructions provided.
Skills Needed: Volunteers arrive at 8, help set up each other’s stations and go over lesson plans that they read the night before. Children arrive at 9, there is an opening circle, 3 rotations, a snack break, and lunch/recess at the end of the field trip. After the children leave volunteers help break down each other’s stations and have a check-in with the Sierra Harvest farm educator(s) about what went well/could have gone better. Bring your sun hat, work shoes, gloves (if you need them), water, snack, lunch, and your passion for farming and teaching the whole child! Folks with a background in Waldorf education or related arts are encouraged to volunteer, as many of these field trips are for students at the local Waldorf methods charter school.
